Sterilize PC plastic bottles should not be steamed

According to the "Jinghua Times" report, the news that BPA plastic bottles were harmful to health caused panic among infant parents. BPA refers to bisphenol-based propane, often referred to as bisphenol A. It is a commonly used chemical raw material, and most plastic containers and packages such as plastic milk bottles and beverage bottles contain this substance. At present, 90% of plastic milk bottles on the market are PC materials, which also contain BPA. Despite the inconclusive nature of BPA, studies have shown that plastic products containing BPA quickly release harmful substances that induce cancer once they are heated or exposed to hot liquids.

Therefore, experts pointed out that to identify whether plastic products contain BPA, you can see if there is a triangular green recycling mark on the bottom of the bottle or Plastic Product. If the number in the triangle is 7, it must contain BPA. Because it is only possible to release bisphenol A at high temperatures, it is important to properly sterilize PC bottles.

Fu Xiaoqing, pediatrician of Beijing Dongsi Maternity Hospital, suggested that parents should try their best to use glass bottles. If plastic bottles are used, the bottle temperature should not exceed 100°C, and special sterilization pots should be used. Some parents are accustomed to using a steamer to sterilize the bottle, but the temperature of the steamer exceeds 100°C. At this time, the BPA in the PC bottle will dissolve out more, so it is not appropriate to use a steamer to disinfect.

In addition, because plastic milk bottles wear out after repeated use of sterilization, the dissolution of BPA will increase at this time, so the doctor reminds: the baby bottle can take up to 8 months to a year.
